Ents

There is something about the Ents that seems to cause people's imaginations to fail. Check out any "Lord of the Rings" calendar and you'll find, when you come across a picture of an Ent, a certain quality of "Well, this is the best we could come up with."

I would suggest that one of the reasons the Ent scenes in the The Two Towers tend to drag (I now usually fast-forward through them) is that Shore was unable to come up with memorable music for them. Here is as close as he comes to an Ent theme. This is not a "theme" as much as it is a bit of standard movie-music mood-setting: rumbles and grumbles in the low strings and woodwinds — nothing to remember, nothing to develop, nothing to make these scenes come alive.
