The companion theme, if you will, to the Lothlorien-oriented Elves theme. Though the movies do not make it obvious, the Rivendell elves are a different strain from the Lorien elves, with different styles. Both themes have a "sacred" sound to them, but Rivendell is more active, with its pattern of notes rising and falling like waves. (Is this a deliberate musical pun on the elvish obsession with the sea? I wonder...)
This theme is not just about Rivendell the place. It seems to have a broader meaning regarding the stewardship over Middle-Earth: the departure of the elves, and the future of men as their successors.
