Feedback

The defining characteristic of this theme is its relentless 5/4 rhythm, evoking the pounding of industrial machinery. Sometimes Shore uses the 5/4 rhythm all by itself to represent the full theme. This theme shows up pretty much whenever we see Saruman or his forces (most notably, of course, the Uruk-Hai).

Shore does little in the way of "developing" this theme. It sounds pretty much the same at Saruman's death as it sounded in the beginning. But then, Saruman himself does not learn or grow during the story either.

This theme is related to the White Rider theme in that they both begin with the same 3-note mordent figure.

Occurrences:

Saruman uprooting trees while Gandalf watches from the tower.
  The creation of the Uruk-Hai.
  Crebain arrive at Isengard.
  The arming of the Uruk-Hai.
The Uruk-Hai running toward Parth Galen.
The fight with the Uruk-Hai at Parth Galen.
Carrying Merry and Pippin, the Uruks smell manflesh (the riders of Rohan) and run [fragment].
  Isengard: more trees being felled.
Rejoining the chase of the Uruks [with Fellowship].
"Looks like meat's back on the menu, boys" (the funniest line in all three movies, in my opinion).
The wargs attack the Rohan party [heard twice].
The Uruk-Hai assault the walls of Helm's Deep.
  Uruks raise scaling ladders.
Saruman at the parley at Isengard: "You are all going to die" [softly, slowly].
